Seth Gilliam (Dr. Deaton)

Seth Gilliam (born November 5, 1968) is an American actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Baltimore-based police detective Ellis Carver on The Wire and of corrections officer Clayton Hughes on Oz. Seth Gilliam graduated from SUNY Purchase in 1990.
Gilliam has had a number of recurring roles on television, including during the seventh season of The Cosby Show as Aaron Dexter, boyfriend of Erika Alexander's Pam, and as Alan Deaton on Teen Wolf.[3] His most prominent role, however, has been on The Wire. In 2008, Gilliam attracted attention for criticising the way in which that show, despite its critical success, had been overlooked for Emmy nominations. He has also had a number of guest roles in other shows such as CSI: Miami, Nurse Jackie, Skins, and the The Good Wife. His feature film credits include playing Private Sugar Watkins in the 1997 action movie Starship Troopers and Sergeant Steven Altameyer in 1996's Courage Under Fire. Gilliam has also acted in the theatre, including playing Prince Edward in a 1993 production of Richard III opposite Denzel Washington in the title role, and as the lead himself in Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's 2010 production of Othello. He has stated that he prefers acting on the stage, "because it’s a lot more fun to do. There is instant communication with the audience. An actor can tell whether or not he or she is connecting with an audience orhether they understand what’s going on."
